Chinese Technology Brand FreeYond Receives nearly CNY 100 Mn in Angel Round

Chinese technology startup FreeYond grows rapidly, selling products in 31 countries worldwide.

Shenzhen-based tech company FreeYond (Chinese: 深圳自由跃动科技有限公司) announced that it netted nearly CNY 100 million (USD 14.84 million) in an angel round of funding yesterday. The investment was made by a Malaysian consortium led by well-known Malaysian investor Datuk Chai Woon Chet.

FreeYond intends to leverage the business influence of Datuk Chai Woon Chet in Southeast Asia to expand its business in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. Datuk Chai Woon Chet sits on the Boards of numerous private companies and invests in telecommunications, finance, and real estate businesses.

Founded in May 2022, FreeYond aims to redefine consumer electronics with Industry 4.0 technology. Within half a year of its establishment, the company has launched 2 smartphones and 1 TWS headset.

FreeYond has expanded its sales network to Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, etc., and collaborated with distributors in 31 countries as of January 12, 2023. The company sells its products on e-commerce platforms including AliExpress, Mercado Libre, Jumia, Amazon, and Shopee.

Other Chinese smartphone brands breaking into overseas markets include OnePlus (Chinese: 一加), Transsion (Chinese: 传音), and Realme (Chinese: 真我).
