EqualOcean has been informed that Urtopia has launched a new e-bike with a digital voice interface that provides ChatGPT to the rider at the EuroBike 2023 convention.
Urtopia is a new electric bike manufacturer based in Hong Kong. It was founded by a group of passionate cycling enthusiasts and top engineers from MIT, UMN, Cornell and CMU. Their first e-bike was launched on Indiegogo in November 2021. It's an all-carbon electric bike full of high-end electronics. Although their factory is in China and their headquarters is in Hong Kong, they have local warehouses around the world.
Touted as the "world's first ChatGPT integrated e-bike," Utopia has integrated the AI chatbot with its own voice recognition system, allowing users to speak their questions and get the answers they want. Calling it "the bike with a mind," Urtopia's offering also comes with a standard set of e-bike features such as built-in GPS, anti-theft locking system, and built-in ride safety.
In addition to Strava support, there is deep integration with Apple's fitness ecosystem of devices and services. For example, Urtopia's ChatGPT-enabled bike can pull heart rate data from an Apple Watch and adjust power compensation based on a person's activity preferences.
Urtopia doesn't say how much its ChatGPT-powered e-bike will cost or when it will be released. Its full look still remains a secret, but the model seems to be inspired by the Carbon 1 e-bike, which Urtopia currently sells for about $3,600 in four colors. In a short teaser released on YouTube, a person can be heard asking the AI bland questions such as the benefits of cycling; ChatGPT's response is read in a machine voice.
Such a combination opens up the market to a lot of imagination. For example, the rider could enter bike specs and body stats and ask ChatGPT to create a customized cycling workout program for them. The assistant could also help with common DIY bike repairs, create a nutrition plan for cycling enthusiasts, create a multi-stop tour plan, offer injury recovery advice, and inform the rider about safety, weather, and local geography.
