According to Vietnamese media reports, Vietnam Mingguang Technology Company and China Huadian Corporation LTD recently revealed when meeting with leaders of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province in Vietnam that they plan to invest in a green hydrogen production plant project in the Đông Gio Linh industrial cluster. It is reported that the first phase of the project will incorporate 200MW of solar power generation, and joint ventures will be allowed. In addition, the project will also cover a 1,200 MW wind power project and an 800 MW solar power project, with a total project investment of approximately USD 2.392 billion. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it is expected to produce 60,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, generate approximately USD 250 million in revenue, contribute approximately USD27.5 million (approximately VND600 billion) to the budget, and also provide employment opportunities for approximately 500 workers.
At the meeting, the Chairman of Quang Tri Province People's Committee of Vietnam evaluated the project's fit with Vietnam's hydrogen energy development strategy and Quang Tri Province's energy development strategy and approved the province’s green hydrogen production pre-feasibility project. At the same time, relevant departments and institutions are assigned to accompany and create favorable conditions to guide investors to complete the procedures for submission to the competent authorities for review as soon as possible.
China Huadian Corporation LTD also hopes to expand cooperation with Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to jointly develop the green energy market to adapt to the global energy transformation trend. The development of Sino-Vietnamese business cooperation in the field of green energy is of great significance to both parties. It will help promote the further development of bilateral economic relations. It will also help promote the development of the green energy market and contribute to the realization of sustainable development goals.
