Huawei, Momenta, and Toyota embark on a tripartite collaboration, marking a significant stride in the field of intelligent driving.
In the latest development in the automotive industry, Huawei and Momenta are set to provide hardware and software solutions respectively to Toyota, in a collaborative effort to introduce a global intelligent driving solution for various vehicle models. This collaborative model, adopting the "Toyota + Huawei + Momenta" framework, entails close cooperation and deep integration among the three parties. Sources reveal that detailed plans are expected to be unveiled during the upcoming Beijing Auto Show.
Previously, Huawei had collaborated with Toyota in the realm of intelligent cockpits. The latest generation of Camry models, launched in March, features a newly developed in-car system jointly created by both parties and is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, promising users a smoother operational experience. Additionally, the upcoming next-generation Prado model will also incorporate Huawei's intelligent cockpit. It is noteworthy that the intelligent driving solution arising from this tripartite collaboration differs from Huawei's existing ADS advanced driver-assistance system, signifying a move towards deeper levels of intelligent driving.
On the other hand, autonomous driving company Momenta entered into a strategic partnership with Toyota in 2020. In March 2020, Momenta announced its provision of high-precision maps and update services based on camera vision technology for Toyota, jointly advancing Toyota's automated mapping platform's commercialization in China. Subsequently, in 2021, Toyota led a $500 million Series C financing round for Momenta. These initiatives not only provided financial support to Momenta but also further strengthened the collaboration between the two entities.
In 2023, Toyota's global automotive sales reached 11.23 million units, maintaining its position as the world's top-selling automaker for four consecutive years, with cumulative sales in China exceeding 1.9 million units. Amidst the intense competition in the new energy vehicle market, while most joint venture brands face pressure from new energy vehicles, Toyota continues to exhibit steady performance and momentum. The tripartite collaboration among Huawei, Momenta, and Toyota may offer new avenues for the development of the automotive market. Specific details of the plan are eagerly anticipated and will be revealed during the upcoming Beijing Auto Show.
