GAC Group Enters Vietnam Market

Chinese auto brand GAC Group has entered Vietnam through distributors. It is unclear when BAIC will start selling its products, but the company will participate in Vietnam's largest auto show, the Vietnam Motor Show, which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City in October.

GAC Group sells its own cars in China and partners with Toyota and Honda to sell theirs. Its lineup includes four trim levels, five SUVs and four MPVs. last year, it sold 406,500 units, accounting for 1.8 percent of the market share. But its total sales, including partnerships with other brands, were about 2.5 million units, roughly the same as last year's top-selling brand in China, BYD, according to Automotive News China.

In Vietnam, GAC cars will be distributed by Malaysia's Tan Chong, which is used to distribute Nissan and MG cars. BAIC's brand Aion will also start selling electric cars in Vietnam this month. The Malaysian firm also said it will appoint independent sales agents and provide after-sales services under a three-year contract with the Chinese company.

Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) 2024 will be held from October 23-27, 2024 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC). The exhibition is organized by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) in cooperation with the Vietnam Vehicle Importers' Group (VIVA).In 2024, VMS is scheduled to attract more than 200,000 on-site visitors during the five-day event.
