EqualOcean has learned that the Marangatu Photovoltaic Power Plant in Brazil, invested and led by the State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC or 国家电投) Brazil, held its commissioning ceremony on the 7th. This solar power project has an installed capacity of 446 kW and can supply electricity to nearly 550,000 households annually.
The Marangatu Photovoltaic Power Plant covers an area of over 1,061 hectares, equipped with 680,000 solar panels, 6,633 trackers, and 1,716 inverters. Construction began in December 2022, overcoming challenges such as participation from multiple international units, difficulties in cross-language and time zone communication, a variety of equipment suppliers, long transportation distances, and complex approval procedures. The project successfully commenced commercial operation this April, achieving its production goals with high quality.
At the commissioning ceremony, Lin Guixiang(林贵祥), Chairman of SPIC Brazil, stated that the Marangatu project is a concrete practice of SPIC's commitment to the global transition to clean and low-carbon energy. With full capacity connected to the grid, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 900,000 tons annually. This not only brings significant environmental and economic benefits to the local community but also contributes importantly to the development of global clean energy.
Rafael Fonteles, Governor of Piauí State, expressed his gratitude to SPIC Brazil for building the photovoltaic power plant in the state. He believes that while the plant brings economic benefits to the state, it also "leaves a precious environmental and social legacy."
According to EqualOcean, the Marangatu Photovoltaic Power Plant was officially initiated in 2022. SPIC Brazil Energy Company signed an agreement with New Energy Holdings Ltd. to acquire 70% of the Marangatu project in northeastern Brazil. Through this collaboration, the two companies invested over BRL 2 billion to build the solar power plant with a total installed capacity of 738,000 kW, with construction planned to start in the third quarter of 2022 and commercial operation by the end of 2023.
At the commissioning ceremony, Lan Heping(兰和平), Consul General of China in Recife, said that China highly values the developmental advantages of northeastern Brazil and is committed to promoting the clean and low-carbon energy transition, improving livelihoods, and achieving common development in the region. The successful commissioning of the Marangatu Photovoltaic Power Plant brings significant economic and social development opportunities to Piauí State, demonstrating the enhanced cooperation between the two countries and vividly implementing the Global Development Initiative.
