On September 7, CATL (宁德时代) unveiled its NP3.0 technology platform at the Munich IAA Mobility Show and launched Shenxing Pro, the world’s first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery based on this platform. This marks a major milestone in CATL’s global expansion and demonstrates its latest breakthroughs in battery safety and performance.

The NP3.0 platform integrates eight core technologies, including flame-retardant electrolyte and separator, nano-coated cathode materials, cell-level safety devices, aerogel insulation, fire-resistant coatings, circuit stability control, and high-voltage active cooling. It can contain thermal runaway, prevent battery swelling or fire, and maintain power output for up to one hour, allowing vehicles to exit hazardous zones safely.

The Shenxing Pro battery adopts Wave cells and CTB (Cell-to-Body) structural design, achieving 76% system integration efficiency. Two product versions were released:

Super Long Life & Long Range Version: Designed for European long-distance travel and leasing demands, offering 758 km WLTP range, a 12-year lifespan or 1 million km durability — claimed to be the world’s longest-lasting passenger EV battery.

Super-Fast-Charging Version: Optimized for cold European climates, offering 683 km WLTP range and supporting 12C peak charging rates. At –20°C, charging from 20% to 80% takes only 20 minutes, making it the fastest LFP ultra-fast-charging battery in Europe.

CATL currently operates manufacturing bases in Germany and Hungary, with its Spain plant set to launch in 2026. Analysts believe the NP3.0 platform and Shenxing Pro will accelerate CATL’s penetration in Europe and strengthen its global leadership in the EV battery supply chain.
