In order to expand the medical device business, Canon of Japan will acquire a semiconductor manufacturer in Canada, with a purchase amount of more than 30 billion yen (about 1.758 billion yuan). The company to be acquired is called redlen technologies, which has self-developed semiconductors that can detect X-rays efficiently. Redlen was founded in 1999, with about 200 employees and undisclosed sales. Canon has contributed about 15% to the company. It is planned to be a wholly-owned subsidiary.
