Data released by IDC on Tuesday showed that China's smartphone market contracted in the second quarter of this year after six consecutive quarters of growth. The data indicated that total shipments in the second quarter fell 4.0% year-on-year to 69 million units, mainly due to weakened consumer demand and a slowdown in the growth momentum driven by government subsidies. In terms of market rankings, Huawei regained the top position after more than four years, with shipments of 12.5 million units in the second quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 3.4% and a market share of 18.1%. Vivo, ranked second, saw its shipments drop by 10.1%, the largest decline among the top five brands. OPPO ranked third, with a year-on-year decrease of 5%.
