OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated on X that, due to the surge in demand driven by GPT-5, the compute power allocation for the coming months will prioritize ensuring that the total availability for current paid ChatGPT users exceeds what it was before the launch of GPT-5. The company will also prioritize API demand until the current allocated capacity is reached and commitments to customers are fulfilled, with estimates suggesting that existing capacity can support an additional 30% growth in API usage. Additionally, OpenAI aims to improve the service quality of the free version of ChatGPT, and then they'll prioritize new API demands. The company plans to double the compute cluster capacity within the next 5 months, which is expected to improve the situation.
