On August 30, to ease the impact of the new postal package tariff policy, the Trump administration set up a six-month transition period (until February 28, 2026). During this period, packages sent through postal channels may choose a “fixed duty” model: countries with tariff rates below 16% (such as the UK and Australia) will be charged USD 80 per package; countries with tariff rates between 16%–25% (such as Mexico and Norway) will be charged USD 160 per package; countries with tariff rates above 25% (such as China and Canada) will be charged USD 200 per package. After the transition period ends, all packages will be taxed based on their value under an “ad valorem” system.
