Chinese Ministry of Education Encourages Codemao to Cooperate With Universities

This is a project launched by the ministry of higher education to encourage cooperation between educational companies and Universities to improve higher education quality. Codemao is named in the list of companies and will be cooperating with universities to provide coding courses for older learners. This will deepen the Integration of Production and Education. 

In December 2017 the ministry of education and information technology issued the “three-year action plan” to promote the development of new generation AI industry (2018-2020) encouraging Colleges/Universities cooperation with educational companies. This was to help higher education institutions to strengthen the construction of related discipline such as AI.

Since its inception, Codemao has actively cooperated with universities and colleges to conduct industry-university-research cooperation. Up to now, Codemao has worked with Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, South China Normal University, Shaanxi Normal University, Huazhong Normal University, Capital Normal University, Northeast Normal University, and Various other colleges. They have jointly carried out research on programming course content construction and programming education, promote the reform of professional talent training mode, and train professionals in the field of programming education for children.

It is worth mentioning that the Codemao is the sole basis for the five computer core curriculum standards (compilation principle, software engineering, data structure, operating system, programming) approved by the National Computer Education Research Association in 2019. The programming education unit will participate in the development of computer core curriculum standards with about 40 experts and scholars in computer education in more than 20 well-known universities across the country.

According to statistics, Codemao has independently developed 7 programming teaching tools, and more than 50 programming materials and books. The joint programming tools have been widely used in Guangdong, Hubei, Hainan, Qingdao, and other provinces and cities, complementing the domestic systemic which is short on programming content for the students. Codemao and the Guangdong Education Association launched China's first full-semester programming experimental textbook "Programming Education". Codemao is settled in more than 7000 colleges and universities and the platform users have exceeded 10 million users.

To be listed by the ministry of education in this project is a huge plus point for Codemao, this way Codemao can interact with various universities. Some of the Chinese universities are world famous and working on programming courses with these universities will open many doors for Codemao in the future. The reason why the online English teaching industry is booming is because of the easy access to professional teachers and online coding industry is suffering because of the lack of professional teachers. Teaming up with universities and producing professional coding teachers for the younger generation will not only benefit Codemao but the whole online coding industry. 

Coding education has caught the eyes of investors since 2015 and has attracted billions of dollars. K12 Education industry alone has raised CNY6.33 billion (USD 931 million) in 2018 with a CAGR of 50.12% from 2016 to 2018.

Founded in 2015, Codemao has raised USD 65 million in two rounds of funding. As reported earlier by EqualOcean the co-founder and CEO of Codemao LI Tianchi (李天驰) told that since 2017Q4, Codemao had been doubling revenue every quarter. Dated the end of 2018, Codemao’ realized revenue was 10 times the number in 2017 and made a single-day revenue record of tens of millions. 

The Codemao platform is designed based on the learning characteristics of children and the concept of modern Chinese education. It adopts a different way of creating “graphical programming modules” than traditional codes and “edutainment” education concepts through interesting game courses and language. The combination of digital and other disciplines allows children to master knowledge in games, quickly understand programming concepts, and exercise their children's logical thinking ability and innovative practical ability.
