NIO Wins the Red Dot Award Again

This is the second Red Dot accolade in a row for NIO, the company won the “Best of the Best” award category in 2018 for home charging station NIO Power Home.

On April 15, the Red Dot Award organizing committee announced that NIO battery swapping station won the "product design award" of red dot award in 2019. This is the second Red Dot accolade in a row for NIO, who won the “Best of the Best” award category in 2018 for home charging station NIO Power Home. 

NIO’s Vice President of Design, Kris Tomasson said, “We are very proud to receive a Red Dot Award for the second year in a row. It confirms that not only are our products innovative and technologically leading but that we are on the right track fulfilling our goal of being ‘driven by design.’”

NIO battery swapping station has more than 500 patents and adopts compact modular design. It is about the size of three standard parking spaces and can be charged in three minutes.

According to NIO, every time the battery swapping station is in use, it will make a thorough inspection of the vehicle battery and the whole vehicle system to ensure the health status of the vehicle and its battery.

The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. In 2019, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products in the competition. The international jury comprises experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for more than 60 years in order to select the year’s best designs. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, their assessment focuses on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity and ergonomics.
