Terminus (特斯联), a leading IoT (Internet of Things) technology company in China, launched a program to build the first smart community leveraged by various 5G applications in Zhiqiang North Community in Haidian District, Beijing. This community contains many elements, such as hotel, kindergarten, playground, nursing home, and so on, which is complicated for holistic management.

Terminus provides IoT solutions consist of IoT devices and management system, for communities, buildings, hospital, universities, etc,. IoT devices include wireless sensors, software, actuators, and computer devices. They are attached to a particular object that operates through the internet, enabling the transfer of data among objects or people automatically without human intervention. The brain of the solutions is the management system to receive all the data detected from every IoT devices and give instructions to the front-end devices.

5G network is the precondition for the construction of smart community. With increased bandwidth of 5G network, data can be downloaded, uploaded, transferred faster than the ear of 4G. In this program, China Mobile takes charge of 5G base station construction for the community.

Terminus is upgrading its IoT devices to support 5G network standard. After that, data transmission and response speed will satisfy the needs of smart community better. According to Terminus, the speed can reach the microsecond level after upgrades.

5G cameras equipped in the community and along the public roads outside of the community, can collect and analyze data of cars, people and other things powered by object recognition tech. It can help old people living in the community to aviod occurrence of accident. When these 5G cameras detect can the old people falling to the ground, or staying at home for so long, they can raise the alarm and neighborhood managers will take actions to regarding situations in time.

Terminus has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan and Guangzhou, and a R&D center in Shenzhen. Its business has covered more than 84 cities in China, with around 8400 IoT programs and benefits more than 10 million people, according to XIE Chao (谢超), the vice president of Terminus.

One of Terminus’ s core business is to transform old communities to be intelligent communities. For instance, huge market lies in around 200 thousand old communities in Shanghai, where there are strong needs for intelligent IoT solutions. The market is valued at CNY 10-20 billion (USD 1.4-2.9 billion).
