Levono Tops Q2 Global PC Shipments
Boosted by the ‘work from home’ trend and online education, global PC shipments amounted to 64.8 million in the second quarter of 2020, with a year-on-year growth rate of 2.8%.
According to Gartner, the Chinese ICT equipment provider, Levono (00992:HKEX) shipped 16.19 million personal computers worldwide during the second quarter of 2020, maintaining its No.1 position with a 25% market share. Even challenged by the global economic turbulence following the pandemic, Lenovo’s shipments saw a growth of 4.2%. The runner-up vendors were Hewlett-Packard (HPQ:NYSE), Dell (DELL:NYSE) and Apple (AAPL:NASDAQ).
Mobile PC growth was strong, driven by several factors, including business continuity for remote working, online education and consumers’ entertainment needs. However, this uptick in mobile PC demand is not quite likely to continue beyond 2020, as shipments were mainly boosted by short-term business needs due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With PC shipments stably topping the global list, Lenovo in China has been actively promoting its service ecosystem, covering smart city, education, agriculture, manufacturing, energy and business solutions. Lenovo is taking advantage of boosting sales in its hardware solutions range along with the 5G network and cloud services being upgraded to the next stage.
