Baidu Vice President Cheng Zhao Joins ByteDance to Cultivate Edtech

As ByteDance's Vice President Lin Chen said, the firm would largely invest in the education industry to promote innovation – the company also thinks there is more room for schools to make progress.

The founder of ByteDance – Yiming Zhang – has announced that ByteDance will treat education as the new strategic focus. Specifically, not only does ByteDance aim to hire the best talent, but it also focuses on making breakthroughs in the combination of software and hardware.

As for hiring talents, ByteDance has attracted Baidu’s vice president Cheng Zhao to join in recent days. Cheng Zhao worked in Baidu for 13 years, and is a figure with comparatively strong experience in the education industry. On the contrary, some talents in ByteDance have also joined Baidu, and they will help to improve Baidu’s short video businesses.

While regard to ByteDance’s products, they cover the age groups from pre-k, k 12 and also adult education. To be more precise, its self-developed products are GoGoKid, Open Language (开言英语) and Guagualong (瓜瓜龙英语). In the last two years, the firm invested in educational businesses by acquiring and investing, building up a whole industrial chain.
