On December 9-11, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). WIM2020 will take on a bolder stance and adopt a more global outlook by taking the form of an online conference that will be streamed simultaneously in all countries and regions that champion the realm of technology and innovation.

During the World Innovators Meet, the WIM Committee will release the annual blockbuster WIA list, the World Innovation Awards, based on our annual industry and investment research findings, together with a series of research reports.

Why EdTech?

Although the global COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed a whirlwind of impacts on the world, hindering global integration and pulling many economies backwards, new opportunities seem to be emerging for all industries as we respond to our current challenges.

For the education industry, in particular, COVID-19 has dramatically accelerated the progression of online education. The conventional form of education has also adopted novel means of technological advancement, highlighting the importance of integrating education and technology, thereby accelerating market expansion and rapidly increasing the penetration rate of online education.

With the commercialization of rapidly evolving technologies such as AI, 5G and AR/VR, the teaching scene is gradually taking on a virtual model.  We predict that barriers to quality digitized education across the globe are likely to be disrupted in the future.

This being said, innovation is particularly important.

EqualOcean will select 50 mid-term start-ups with great potential in the field of global education technology innovation, releasing the 2020 Global Education Technology Innovation Top 50 list and report. Categorizing the education industry according to the target users, EqualOcean divides it into six major subcategories, including Pre-School Education, K12 Supporting, STEAM Education, Language Learning, Professional Education and Education Management/Solution Platform.

Pre-school education

Nowadays, traditional modes of teaching pre-school curricula can hardly catch up with the increasing demand for high-quality education. On the other hand, the emergence of new educational concepts and their popularity have intensified the fierce competition in this field; the survival of traditional early childhood education is particularly difficult, with providers' market shares potentially taken over by innovative counterparts.

K12 complementary learning programs

Companies that offer K12 complementary learning programs aim to improve user learning efficiency by adopting convenient methods. With the development of the mobile Internet, these entities will be able to better cater to students that are comfortable with technology-infused learning models.

STEAM education

STEAM is an educational approach initially put forth by the US government, referring to learning using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. With the overall education level improving, the multi-faceted development of abilities is more important than ever before; the STEAM education concept has thus entered a period of rapid popularization.

Language learning

Although global integration has slowed down since the pandemic, its trend will pick up in the long-run. Consumer enthusiasm for language learning has never ceased. With the help of new technologies, more convenient and user-friendly language learning tools may become the first choice of consumers.

Professional education

To a certain extent, the slowdown in economic growth has exacerbated people's dissatisfaction with the status quo. The number of people looking for new career opportunities has increased, which in turn has sped up the development of professional education.

Education management/solution platform

Solving the needs of teachers and students to boost the advancement of the education industry is the companies' core value in this arena. The pandemic has brought out complications in the education sector due to the discrepancy between demand and supply. As a result, EdTech platform providers have played a key role in resolving these new challenges.
