Here we would like to announce some speakers for the North America Chapter panel discussion, to be moderated by speaker Serena Chen: Oscar Ramos, David Li and Jeff Chien. They will discuss innovation trends in China's Markets and opportunities for overseas entrepreneurs and investors.
On December 9-12, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). WIM2020 will take on a bolder stance and adopt a more global outlook by taking the form of an online conference that will be streamed simultaneously in all countries and regions that champion the realm of technology and innovation.

In recent years, the North American tech industry has rapidly increased in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship. Most of the trends in technological developments come from this region that has extended influence in different directions. The great activity of startups, investors, incubators, accelerators and state organizations has encouraged the promotion of new business models.
Serena Chen, Consultant at Deloitte Consulting
Ms. Chen graduated from Zhejiang University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and from Washington University in St. Louis. with a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management. Serena is committed to helping people understand supply chain strategy and supporting their digital transformations, working to bridge the many gaps between business and technology.
Ms. Chen is also a certified AWS and Azure Cloud Solution Architect with project experience on Cloud Migration. Her experience includes digital transformation for international pharmaceutical companies, including operation standardization and processes related to efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
Serena has been a director of Mentor Relations at Aves Lair, NYC-based AI/Blockchain Accelerator. Now Ms. Chen is an experienced consultant at Deloitte Consulting with her background on Business Process Improvement and Operation Optimization. In her study she focuses on the value chain. Chen says: "However, in the midst of platform-based business models and the beginnings of digital ecosystems as the key to business success, leaders are trying to find the best way to harmonize and balance them to bring out the best values."
Oscar Ramos, Partner & Managing Director of Chinaccelerator
After getting his Master's Degree in Telecommunications, Oscar started off his career in Ericsson as an R&D engineer and later joined Telefonica Research Center working on deep tech topics such as mobile network protocols, cybersecurity, RF and media technology. After discovering the power of Business Model Innovation he transitioned to the world of startups. Oscar Ramos is a 'Full Stack Innovator' with expertise ranging from product development to corporate strategy.
In early 2008, after several years working for a MedTech startup, he moved to China. Since Oscar's move to China he has been involved in multiple forms of innovation: product launches, go-to market strategies, Venture Capital financing and M&As for startups and multinationals. He is a regular speaker at conferences worldwide about Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Chinaccelerator is a global fund with more than $250M in assets under management and a staff of nearly 50 operating world-renowned accelerators in the areas of hardware, software, biology, food, robotics, medical devices, transportation, green energy and so on. There are over 400 companies in Chinaccelerator portfolio, with graduations for over 150 start-ups from the core accelerator programs each year, Innovation and Venture Capital.
David Li, Founder of Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab
David Li is a pioneer in the 'tech and maker space' scene in China. Since 2010, he has been working to transform this area and has been recognized as a 'Top Maker in Asia.' David was responsible for the creation and operation of the first maker space in China, Xin Chejian, promoting the hacker-maker culture in the country. As a native innovator, David has participated in the co-creation of diverse technology and hardware communities such as Hacked Matter, a research group that study in depth the China's technological innovation, and Maker Collider, a platform for developing next-Generation IoT. Currently, David is director at the Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab.
Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab is a technology space created to promote communication between makers and the wider tech ecosystem. This space was established by Maker Collider, Intel's business accelerator and SIDA. Additionally, SZOIL is the first FAB Lab in Shenzhen authorized by MIT CBA as a research partner of FAB Lab 2.0. Therefore, the LAB promotes Fablab and researches and develops Fablab 2.0. Activities include conducting innovation and entrepreneurs education courses, serves as global maker service platform and supple chain collaboration service.
SZOIL is dedicated to promoting the Shenzhen ecosystem in the world. With the development of programs, the Lab has drawn the attention of international companies and research institutions to manufacturing intelligent hardware in the city. The exchange and collaboration with other maker space have resulted in the creation of diverse workshops, meetings and conferences to exchange ideas and thoughts with regions such as North America, South America and Europe.
Jeff Chien – SVP, China Partnership at Plug and Play Tech Center
Jeff Chien has extensive experience in the innovative sections of many industries. His career started in the financial sector, when he joined Citibank/ HSBC in the Bay Area. Thereafter he received his MBA degree and worked for Anbang Asset Management in Hong Kong and Soho China in Beijing, where he made remarkable contributions as special assistant to Chairman Pan Shiyi.
At present, Jeff is senior vice president at Plug and Play and he is responsible for the globalization and investment area of P&P China. He has dedicated his job to collaborate with other players in the ecosystem across the industry and has been in charge of different partnerships with relevant actors such as Kering, China State Grid, Cisco China, JD.com, China Resource, Fosum, and others.
According to Jeff, an increasing number of corporations in China have claimed an interest in collaborating with startups, as well as municipal governments and investors. Against this background, he claims that Plug & Play is the world's leading platform in supporting collaboration for sustainability innovation. The company is currently adopting services like startup accelerator programs and venture investment to scale up the speed of innovation and collaboration between both regions.
