Hidden Short Circuit: Xpeng Recalls 13,000 Vehicles

The recall is due to the inverter short circuit, which may cause unlaunchable problem in the state of parking.

On January 29, the State Administration of Market Supervision announces that Guangzhou Xpeng Automobile Technology has filed a recall plan a few days ago, and decided to recall 13,399 Xiaopeng G3 vehicles produced from March 29, 2019, to September 27, 2020, starting from January 30, 2021. This is the first large-scale vehicle recall in Xiaopeng's history.

As for the reasons for the recall, according to the company, the recalled vehicles are abused by cannot restart in the state of parking because of the inverter short circuit, which means there are potential safety hazards when this happens on the road. A person who is familiar with the model told us that, in addition to the unlaunchable problem, the short circuit may also lead to fire-set. After the recall action, Xiaopeng will replace the inverter free.

Xpeng G3 is a pure electric compact SUV. The model uses a single-motor structure and is equipped with a 145 kW motor, with a maximum torque of 300nm. There are two versions of Xpeng G3, one with a range of 401 km and the other with a range of 520 km.
