On April 14, according to the report of LatePost, Beijing Roborock Technology is developing its own multi-layer laser radar, which may be used in autonomous vehicles in the future.

Established in July 2014, Roborock Technology has been focusing on the research of household intelligent electrical appliances such as intelligent cleaning robots. The company was listed on the Chinese STAR Market in February 2020, with a market value of nearly 70 billion yuan. After two years’ development, Roborock Technology launched its first product in 2016. At present, Roborock Technology has launched a two-digit number of robots including sweeping robots, Mi sweeping robots, Mi handheld vacuum cleaners, and successfully become a link of Xiaomi ecological chain.

In 2019, Roborock Technology began to try to apply multi-layer laser radar to commercial sweeping robots. Although it has not been officially released, it has already had testing and cooperation with some customers. Compared with single-layer laser radar, multi-layer laser radar can not only do plane scanning but also identify the height of the object and obtain a 3D scanning map of the surrounding environment, which is widely used in the field of automatic driving.

It is reported that the multi-layer laser radar technology developed by Roborock Technology will be applied to its own products at present, but it is not ruled out that technology will be used in the field of automatic driving and EV field in the future.
