Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut invited Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his entourage to visit the Labuan Bajo Tourism Zone as part of a series of activities under the Fourth Indonesia-China High-Level Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism.
In a content uploaded through his official Instagram account, Luhut said he and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed various important matters over durian, such as the development plan for the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail mega-project as well as cooperation in the development of a food industry park. They also discussed the rice plantation project in the food industrial park area in Central Kalimantan and the TSTH development plan in Toba, as well as the construction plan for the Kuala Tanjung Port.
Nonetheless, Luhut said their discussion was not only limited to the cooperation programs to be carried out by the two countries but also discussed the culture and traditions of Indonesia and China. The discussion was considered important to bring the two countries closer together so that bilateral relations between Indonesia and China could develop smoothly. It was not uncommon for them to discuss trivial issues, such as the similarities between Indonesia and China on the principle of mutual openness and how cultural diversity can bring bilateral relations between the two friendly countries closer.
On April 18, local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with reporters in Jakarta after talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno.
Wang Yi congratulated Indonesia on the smooth and successful holding of the general election and congratulated President Joko for leading the Indonesian people to achieve outstanding development achievements. Wang Yi said that this visit to Indonesia is for the implementation of the important consensus of the two heads of state, to show firm support for Indonesia, and to promote new and greater development of bilateral relations. I had fruitful exchanges with Ms. Foreign Minister and reached a broad consensus. We reviewed the historic development of China-Indonesia relations over the past 10 years and concluded that the most fundamental reason for the valuable achievements is adherence to the leadership of the head of state, the most distinctive is adherence to strategic autonomy, the most crucial is adherence to mutual trust and mutual assistance, the most important is adherence to win-win cooperation, and the most valuable is adherence to fairness and justice. We expect the two sides to carry forward the fine tradition of cooperation, help each other to walk the road of modernization with their characteristics, build a higher level of China-Indonesia community of destiny, and work together to create a better future for the relations between the two countries.
The two sides should be a model of mutual trust and assistance between a great power and a neighboring country. We will continue to follow the strategic leadership of the heads of state and consolidate the high level of strategic mutual trust. Taking the 2+2 Dialogue between Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers as a platform to enhance political and security cooperation, the two sides should firmly understand and support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns.
The two sides should be engines of modernization for developing countries. They should promote the in-depth connection between Chinese-style modernization and the vision of "Golden Indonesia 2045", to boost each other's strengths and make mutual achievements, and provide more choices of paths for developing countries to realize modernization. The two sides will continue to take the lead in international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, expand cooperation in new productivity areas such as the digital economy, and work together to promote sustainable development and economic transformation.
