China-Latin America Industrial Investment Cooperation Seminar Successfully Held in Beijing: A New Stage of High-Quality Development in China-Latin America Comprehensive Cooperation

On October 16, 2024, the 2024 China-Latin America Industrial Investment Cooperation Seminar was successfully held in Beijing. The seminar was hosted by the Foreign Investment Department of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and organized by the China Development Bank. It received support from various Chinese government departments, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce, and attracted participation from numerous research institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as well as key enterprises engaged in China-Latin America cooperation. The event brought together over 70 representatives from both regions, aiming to further promote the in-depth development of the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Latin America.

The seminar centered on the theme “Mutually Beneficial Cooperation: Advancing High-Quality Development of China-Latin America Industrial Investment Cooperation.” Zhang Shixin, Deputy Secretary-General of the NDRC, and Wang Weidong, Vice President of the China Development Bank, delivered opening remarks. Deputy Secretary-General Zhang emphasized that, under the personal promotion of leaders from both China and Latin America and the proactive efforts from various sectors, practical cooperation between the two regions has experienced rapid growth. The three major cooperation engines—trade, investment, and finance—are working synergistically. He noted that the cooperative mechanisms are continually being improved, trade scales are expanding, investment cooperation is deepening, and financial support is becoming increasingly evident.

During the seminar, ambassadors from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Honduras, along with the Chargé d'Affaires from Chile, delivered speeches detailing the economic and social development status, key development plans, and major projects of their respective countries. These remarks not only demonstrated the steadfast commitment of these countries to deepen industrial investment cooperation with China but also highlighted the strong economic complementarity and solid foundation for cooperation between China and Latin America.

The pronounced economic complementarity and the potential for cooperation between the two regions provide a robust foundation for collaboration. Hosting such high-level forums not only promotes exploration of cooperation opportunities across a broader spectrum but also lays a cornerstone for achieving high-quality development and mutually beneficial outcomes. The Chinese side expressed its willingness to work with relevant Latin American countries to continuously advance industrial investment cooperation to deeper levels and broader fields.
