Impact investment firm VentureTech Sdn. Bhd. has announced a strategic investment in MTC Orec Sdn. Bhd. (MTC Orec), an indigenous company specializing in the bioenergy sector. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of MTC Orec's biomethane plant, underscoring both companies' commitment to promoting sustainable growth and renewable energy innovation.
VentureTech's investment will facilitate the development of new biomethane plants in the northern and east coast regions of Malaysia. In addition, it will lead to the execution of a biomethane project in partnership with a prominent oil and gas company, which is scheduled to begin in 2025. These efforts are expected to make a significant contribution to Malaysia's renewable energy goals, promote sustainable growth, and reinforce the country's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
MTC Orec is a renowned expert in the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of biogas facilities, with a proven track record in converting waste to renewable energy. Notably, the company developed one of the first biomethane plants based on palm oil mill effluent, injecting biomethane directly into Malaysia's national gas pipeline. This achievement reflects MTC Orec's leadership in aligning innovative solutions with Malaysia's sustainability agenda.
Building on successful partnerships with high-profile clients such as Gas Malaysia, MTC Orec is currently developing four additional bioenergy plants in Johor and the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. These projects help address key environmental challenges, including waste management and greenhouse gas emissions, while creating economic opportunities for local communities.
This partnership underscores VentureTech and MTC Orec's shared vision for advancing Malaysia's renewable energy ecosystem. By championing impactful biogas projects, this partnership not only delivers long-term environmental, economic, and social benefits, but also drives innovation and sustainability in Malaysia's energy sector, paving the way for a greener, more inclusive future.
