TikTok promotes transparency in platform operations
On March 30, at the 2025 China Network Media Forum, Han Shangyou, President of the short-video platform Douyin, officially announced the launch of the "Douyin Security and Trust Center" website (95152.douyin.com). The website publicly discloses TikTok's algorithm principles, community norms, governance system, and user service mechanisms to the society.
The website reveals for the first time the principles of TikTok's recommendation algorithm. It introduces how the recommendation algorithm estimates the probability of user behavior and achieves higher-quality and more diverse content recommendations through multi-objective modeling and other means. Meanwhile, the algorithm will be constrained and regulated by the platform's governance system. The website also discloses the review process of TikTok's platform governance, elaborating on how the platform addresses challenges brought by illegal content such as rumors and cyberbullying.
In January 2025, TikTok announced plans to introduce 10 measures to promote transparency in platform operations. TikTok had stated that it would rely on the Security and Trust Center to introduce topics of social concern, so as to make the public have a more tangible understanding of the platform's operations, respond to public concerns, and accept public supervision. The launch of this website means that relevant measures are being implemented gradually.
