According to information obtained by EqualOcean, on April 2, 2025, WeRide (Nasdaq: WRD), announced a strategic partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER) and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch robotaxi services in Dubai.
WeRide has been operating robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi since 2021 and received the UAE's first nationwide autonomous driving license in July 2023. In December 2024, WeRide and Uber launched autonomous driving services in Abu Dhabi, marking Uber's first autonomous vehicle deployment outside the United States and the largest commercial robotaxi fleet outside the US and China.
This new collaboration will integrate WeRide's robotaxis into the Uber platform throughout Dubai, providing users with autonomous driving experiences. The three parties will also explore cooperation in data compliance, safety protocols, and regulatory frameworks.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of Dubai's RTA, stated that this partnership represents a key step in Dubai's autonomous transport strategy, which aims to convert 25% of the city's travel to autonomous modes across various transport systems by 2030.
