On the evening of April 27, CATL (宁德时代) and HyperStrong (海博思创), a leading domestic energy storage system integrator, signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Ningde, Fujian. The two parties announced a partnership involving a total of 60GWh in sodium-ion battery orders for energy storage over the next three years.

CATL

This represents the world's largest sodium-ion battery order to date, marking the formal transition of sodium-ion technology from technical validation and prototyping into a new phase of large-scale mass production and commercial explosion.

As CATL’s (宁德时代) first strategic partner for sodium-ion energy storage, HyperStrong (海博思创) will engage in deep synergy with CATL (宁德时代) in R&D and project implementation. The realization of this massive order is attributed to CATL (宁德时代) successfully overcoming the challenges across the entire sodium-ion mass production chain. By utilizing core manufacturing processes such as adaptive dynamic formation, angstrom-level pore size adjustment, and surface molecular water-locking, CATL (宁德时代) has systematically solved persistent technical issues like hard carbon production line bubbling and moisture control, ensuring consistency in high-volume output. Additionally, the new sodium-ion storage batteries utilize a platform-based design identical in size to lithium batteries, allowing for low-cost adaptation using the existing supply chain and significantly shortening the cycle from production line to power station deployment.

During the "Super Tech Day" on April 21, CATL (宁德时代) revealed that its third-generation sodium-ion batteries will achieve large-scale mass production by the end of 2026. In a market environment characterized by lithium price volatility and surging demand for long-duration energy storage, sodium-ion batteries—with their superior low-temperature performance, high safety, and lower theoretical costs—are becoming a critical pillar in a "sodium-lithium parallel" strategy. The signing of this 60GWh order not only secures a core supply chain for HyperStrong (海博思创) but also establishes CATL’s (宁德时代) absolute leadership in the global industrialization of sodium-ion technology.
