Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited（宁德时代, CATL）has signed a 3GWh battery energy-storage-system supply agreement with independent power producer ContourGlobal, covering three projects in the United Kingdom, Greece and Chile.
ContourGlobal announced the agreement through its official LinkedIn account on August 10. CATL will supply 526 liquid-cooled battery-storage containers, each rated at 1.4MW/5.64MWh. On a nameplate basis, the equipment totals about 2.97GWh, consistent with the companies’ description of the order as roughly 3GWh.
The systems are intended for three ContourGlobal projects: the 500MW/2,000MWh Wallace BESS in the United Kingdom; the 100MW/400MWh Taxiarches BESS in Greece; and the Los Maitenes solar project in Chile, which includes a 90MW/360MWh battery-storage system. The Greek and Chilean projects are under construction, while development of the Wallace project has entered a later stage.
The disclosed storage capacities of the three projects total 2.76GWh. ContourGlobal did not specify in its announcement how the difference between that figure and the approximately 2.97GWh of contracted container capacity would be allocated.
For CATL, the agreement is a sizeable overseas grid-storage order spanning European and Latin American markets. It also places CATL’s containerized liquid-cooling systems in projects at different development stages, making delivery, installation and commissioning the next milestones to watch.
