WeRide（文远知行）announced a global insurance partnership program on October 27, naming Allianz Insurance Singapore（安联保险新加坡）and Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance（中国平安财产保险）as its inaugural partners.
The partners will develop insurance solutions for L4 autonomous-vehicle operations, including motor liability, commercial general and product liability, and privacy and cybersecurity risks, subject to local requirements.
Existing arrangements provide a starting point. Allianz has insured WeRide’s Robobus service on Singapore’s Sentosa island and subsequently extended coverage to Robotaxis deployed with Grab as part of the Ai.R shuttle service in Punggol.
WeRide said its work with Ping An P&C supports Robotaxi operations in China and the Middle East, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The arrangements encompass services accessed through WeRide Go and third-party platforms such as Uber and TXAI.
The program also aims to support future European launches. That objective should be distinguished from insurance already in place for specific operations.
Insurance adds an operational layer to autonomous-driving expansion, but does not remove the need for local approvals or eliminate operators’ liabilities. WeRide has not disclosed premiums, coverage limits or exclusions. Whether the program improves operating costs will depend on policy terms, claims experience and deployment scale.
