The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and NIO inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 15 for collaboration on green eco-investment and biodiversity conservation in China.
Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO (Chinese:蔚来汽车) partners with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), collectively promoting the conservation of protected areas and national parks in China.
By the end of last year, NIO had launched an environment-related program, Clean Parks, to protect environmentally sensitive areas and secure high-profile partners, such as the World Wildlife Foundation.
Through the Clean Parks initiative, the NIO-UNDP partnership will galvanize private enterprises to step up their efforts on biodiversity conservation and tackling climate change. Specifically, NIO and the UNDP will guide private firms to green their supply chain and pilot renewable energy solutions, such as electric vehicles and charging facilities.
NIO and the UNDP will also conduct in-depth cooperation concerning environmental protection in nature reserves, youth and women empowerment, and the development of eco-investment standards.
Headquartered in Shanghai, NIO has been pioneering innovative and green transportation solutions. Last December, NIO established a special fund dedicated to investing in conservation efforts in protected areas worldwide over the following three years.
"It is our great honor to have the UNDP to support the Clean Parks initiative with NIO, with a shared vision of building a clean, low-carbon, and sustainable circulation system in nature reserves," in a statement by William Li, the founder of NIO.
The NIO-UNDP partnership will play a leading role in the second half of the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Conservation of Biodiversity at the end of this year in Montreal, Canada.
