On May 20th, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, Ho Ky Minh, met with Zhou Xianyi, Party Secretary of Tianfu New Area in Sichuan Province, China. The meeting aimed to explore cooperation and development opportunities between the two regions in various fields such as economy, technology, and tourism.
Ho Ky Minh highlighted that Da Nang and Tianfu New Area share many similarities in urban economic management and development. He emphasized that both sides could engage in experience exchange and collaboration in areas like digital transformation, transportation, tourism, technology, innovation, and trade. He expressed his hope for joint efforts to promote communication and support the development of local advantageous industries.
Zhou Xianyi praised the development achievements of Da Nang and outlined the potential of Tianfu New Area. He stated that Tianfu New Area seeks to strengthen cooperation with Da Nang in tourism, industry, energy, and digital transformation. He also suggested that the Da Nang government support Tianfu New Area enterprises in their investment and development in Da Nang.
To date, Chinese enterprises have invested in 93 direct investment projects in Da Nang, with a total investment of $118 million, primarily in sectors such as catering, electronic equipment import consulting, and silicon production.
In 2023, Da Nang's exports to China amounted to approximately $47 million, while imports reached about $205 million (excluding exports to Taiwan and Hong Kong SAR). Major export goods included transformers, fishing rods, textiles and garments, aquatic products, mobile phone headsets, wood chips, and handicrafts. Key imports comprised engines, parts, machinery, production equipment, and various types of steel.
In the tourism sector, Da Nang welcomed about 179,000 Chinese tourists in 2023, making China the second-largest international tourism market for Da Nang.
This meeting further deepened the understanding between Da Nang and Sichuan Tianfu New Area and laid a foundation for future multi-field cooperation.
