The event, aimed at promoting comprehensive innovation in China-Brazil economic and investment cooperation in the new era, was co-hosted by the China International Investment Promotion Agency and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. The seminar received strong support from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, the Brazilian Vice President's Office, the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, the Brazilian Embassy in China, and the China-Brazil Business Council.
As a significant outcome of the seminar, Ni Bing(尼冰), Member of the Standing Committee and Executive Deputy District Mayor of Yangpu District, Shanghai, and Jorge Viana, Chairman of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Chief of Staff Rui Costa.
In the future, the People's Government of Yangpu District, Shanghai, and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency will jointly establish the first "Brazil Center" in Asia. This comprehensive service platform will facilitate Brazilian companies entering the Chinese market and Chinese companies entering the Brazilian market. The collaboration will focus on key areas such as green and low-carbon development, bioeconomy, sustainable agricultural technology, and the digital economy. The two parties will organize business and innovation activities, further promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as science and technology exchange projects. They will leverage the China International Import Expo platform to enhance the connection between Brazilian exhibitors and the Chinese market.
In his speech, Ni Bing stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China-Brazil diplomatic relations. The establishment of the "Brazil Center" is a significant milestone in deepening cooperation and will bring more opportunities for Yangpu District to engage with Brazil and Latin America. He expressed hope for continued close contact, deepening pragmatic cooperation in economic trade, technological innovation, and cultural exchange, and sharing resources to jointly write a new chapter of innovative development.
Jorge Viana emphasized that the "Brazil Center" is a key project of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. The cooperation with the People's Government of Yangpu District, Shanghai, will open the door for Brazilian companies to the Chinese market, offering broader business prospects and creating new avenues for Chinese enterprises to explore the Brazilian market. He expects the "Brazil Center" to become an important bridge for cooperation over the next 50 years.
Yangpu District, as a core area of Shanghai, has been committed to promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation with Brazil, establishing close ties with the Brazilian Consulate General in Shanghai and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency. With strong support from the Yangpu District Committee and Government, the "China-Brazil Innovation Week" has been successfully held for three consecutive years.
In 2022, Yangpu District supported Brazil in setting up a science and technology innovation exhibition group at the 6th China International Import Expo. In August 2023, during the International Cooperation Forum on Green Transformation, several Brazilian companies signed agreements to settle in Changyang Valley. In September of the same year, the 4th China-Brazil Innovation Week was jointly launched by high-level officials at the Pujiang Innovation Forum. The Brazil National Pavilion showcased its innovations and technological needs at the Global Technology Transfer Conference. During the November 2023 China International Import Expo, more than fifty Brazilian companies visited Yangpu, and over ten science and technology companies exhibited. In March this year, a Brazilian delegation led by Deputy Consul General Vantian Yang had an in-depth discussion with Xu Kan, Secretary of the Yangpu District Committee, on deepening cooperation and fully supporting Brazilian enterprises' development in Yangpu.
The signing of this MoU marks the deepening and expansion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Yangpu and Brazil. It reflects the firm commitment of both parties to strengthen cooperation and seek mutual development, laying a solid foundation for broader collaboration. We look forward to both sides continuing to work together to create a bright future.
