Sumitomo Electric, a Japanese chip maker, plans to double the supply capacity of its U.S. operations by starting to produce semiconductors for 5g base stations in the U.S. from September, the website of Nikkei Asia review reported without citing a source on July 4. Sumitomo Electric has set up a production facility in a factory in New Jersey. The total investment amounted to billions of yen (one billion yen is equivalent to nine million US dollars). The facility will produce transistors as the core components of the base station to amplify signals.
