TAL's Next Move: Upgrades on 2B Business

Is it time for the leading K-12 after-school tutoring services provider in China to turn over?

On December 21, TAL Education Group (TAL:NYSE) announced a comprehensive upgrade of its 2B business and the launch of a new brand 'Mei School' (Chinese: 美校). It aims to provide a set of solutions to live broadcasting, teaching and researching, and AI systems for the education industry, improving the digitalization of the whole industry.

It is reported that this would be led by Zhang Mi, CTO of the TAL. The core business can be concluded as Cloud Live, Cloud Teaching & Research, Cloud Study.

Cloud Live provides a live broadcast service platform suitable for various scenarios and class types, helping schools and educational institutions to provide online course services. It could be divided into standard version, small class version (OMO) and large class version.

Cloud Teaching and Research aims to provide teachers with a wide range of functions to help teachers better prepare lessons. At the same time, Cloud Live and Cloud Teaching & Research will be fully connected to achieve interoperability.

Cloud Study will open up over 170 AI capabilities covering all aspects to the industry, ranging from preparing, teaching, training, examination, evaluation and management. It will also provide customized AI solutions in interactive assessment, practice correction, content production and teaching management.

Previously, TAL announced to cease offering academic subjects to students from kindergarten through grade nine ('K9 Academic AST Service') in the mainland of China by the end of December 2021, in compliance with the Opinion and applicable rules, regulations and measures.
