Temu enhances preferred payment options to optimize customer shopping experience

On February 28, Temu, the cross-border e-commerce platform under Chinese e-commerce company Pinduoduo, and Nuvei, a Canadian financial technology company, announced a partnership aimed at providing more opportunities for global Temu customers to use local payment methods.

Nuvei is a Canadian financial technology company that currently offers payment services in more than 200 markets globally, covering local acquiring in 50 markets, supporting 150 currencies and 720 alternative payment methods.

Following this integration, Temu customers can make payments using local payment methods in countries such as Japan, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal. This customer-centric approach will be further expanded in 2025, with plans to enhance the payment experience in new markets such as Colombia, Chile, and Canada. The condition is that only merchants registered in Canada, with local inventory and fulfillment capabilities, are eligible to participate.

Temu first entered the Canadian market in 2023 and will open its platform to Canadian sellers in March 2025, launching a local-to-local model. The prerequisite is that only merchants registered in Canada, with local inventory and fulfillment capabilities, are eligible to participate.

In 2024, Temu dominated the mobile app download charts in more than 40 countries, including major markets such as the United States, Europe, South Korea, and the Middle East. Temu's downloads increased by 69% year-on-year, reaching 550 million in 2024, and by the end of December 2024, its cumulative global downloads approached 900 million. At the end of 2024, it became the most downloaded app on Apple in Canada.
