Moonshot AI(月之暗面)has discussed leasing computing capacity hosted in European data centres to access NVIDIA(英伟达)Blackwell GPUs, CNBC reported on November 5, citing people familiar with the matter. The report did not confirm a completed agreement.
One source told CNBC that discussions included access to clusters of 8,000 or more Blackwell GPUs. Moonshot was primarily interested in capacity for inference, according to the report, although training capacity was also discussed.
Moonshot, the developer of the Kimi model family, has sought additional computing resources as demand for AI models grows. Leasing capacity from a data-centre operator would give it access to computing services hosted outside China.
US export controls restrict shipments of advanced AI chips to China. Remote access through overseas cloud providers has also attracted attention from US policymakers, and the terms available to customers can depend on providers’ commercial and compliance assessments.
The reported discussions highlight the role of international cloud operators in supplying computing capacity to AI developers. The scale and timing of any arrangement will depend on whether the parties reach an agreement and make the capacity available.
