In the second quarter of 2020, global spending by players on mobile games reached USD 19.3 billion, an increase of 10.3% from the previous quarter.
According to Sensor Tower, global second-quarter mobile game downloads increased to 15 billion, a year-on-year increase of almost 45%. The peak of mobile game downloads in the first half of the year occurred in April, reaching 5.5 billion.
Mobile game player expenses peaked in May, reaching USD 6.6 billion, an increase of 21.5% from May 2019.
In the first half of this year, the top three markets for global mobile game downloads were India, the United States and Brazil. India's Q2 game downloads increased by 50% from the previous month to 2.7 billion. The US market's growth rate is relatively flat, with mobile game downloads exceeding 1.4 billion in Q1 and Q2. The Brazilian market recorded nearly 1.1 billion downloads in Q1, and in Q2 the figure increased by 9% to 1.2 billion.
During the outbreak of the epidemic, mobile games with strong social functions ushered in a substantial increase. Typical examples are the sandbox game platform 'Roblox' for teenagers and the Epic game 'Fortnite.'
