World's Largest Electronic Cruise Ship Equips CATL's LFP Battery Cells

As a world-leading battery manufacturer, the company is accelerating on its path of cooperation with different transportation tools companies.

According to CATL, on December 28, 2020, the "World's Largest Electronic Cruise Ship," Three Gorges Cruise Ship I, confirmed it will utilize CATL's LFP battery cells. The company stated that each battery cell has a total capacity of 7.5 MWh, which equals 100 times the power of EV batteries. The whole battery system is composed of over 10,000 battery cells.

 Three Gorges Cruise Ship I building project started in December 2020.  Operator Meiya International Travel Service (MYITS) plans to launch the electronic cruise ship in July 2021 and put it into commercial service in November the same year. The newly built cruise ship will be mainly operated on the Yangtze River night tour and Three Gorges ship lifts tourism routes, and it can be used in meetings, reception, wedding banquet and shows scenarios. The cruise ship is equipped with 15 independent battery power stations to charge and discharge the ship separately. In addition, the electric cruise ship is also the first electric ship in the world to adopt the scheme of high-voltage charging and low-voltage power supplement system.

 This is the first cooperation between CATL and Chongqing's MYITS. According to a person familiar with the deal, CATL is seeking more cooperation, not only with EV manufacturers but also with other transportation tools manufacturers.
