The tram is a pilot project of Zhejiang and China Mobil said they will explore more 5G advanced applications related to transportation.
On July 20, 2021, the first 5G urban tram in Zhejiang Province drove out from Jiaxing South Station, which means Jiaxing has become the first city with a 5G urban tram in China. Zhejiang Mobile Jiaxing Branch introduced that the train realizes the train ground wireless communication through the 5G network. Zhejiang Mobile has built 39 stations and 19 micro base stations on the12 km routes. The average download rate on the tram reached 500m per second, and the upload rate exceeded 90m per second. It can fully meet the needs of safe transportation of the tram. At the same time, the staff can detect the driving data and passenger situation of all tracks on the monitoring screen in the control center.
In the past, communication among trams was carried by private networks. Now with 5G private network technology, no private network is needed in the routes. 5G private network is very suitable for the application in high-speed mobile scenes. In the future, Zhejiang Mobile said they will continue to explore 5G advanced applications.
Now the tram has become a popular pilot project. Within 100 days after the open to traffic, residents and tourists nearby can take the tram for free. According to statistics, since its opening, Jiaxing 5G tram attracts more than 20,000 passengers per day.
