On April 15, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Lu Kang announced good news: Jakarta International Airport has opened the self-service entry system (Auto-gate) to Chinese citizens.
Chinese nationals who apply for an e-visa through the Indonesia e-visa system before coming to Indonesia will be able to enter the country through the auto-gate system.
According to the official website of Indonesia's Immigration Department on January 3, foreign travelers can quickly enter and exit Indonesia through the auto-gate at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the Indonesian capital.
Director General of Indonesian Immigration, Mr. Sirmi said that the Directorate General of Indonesian Immigration has opened 78 new automated gates, which will take only 15 to 25 seconds to check the entry and exit of each person crossing the border. Both Indonesian citizens and foreigners can use the gates. Foreign nationals need to have an e-passport and an Indonesian visa, including the Indonesian Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) or a visa applied for through the official website of the Directorate General of Immigration ( https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/).
Meanwhile, foreigners from the 10 visa-exempt countries (ASEAN member countries) must register for the Free Visitor Visa (Bebas Visa Kunjungan ,BVK) application at visa.immigration.go.id. Foreigners can also scan the barcode inside the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in the Indonesian capital and register through the link provided to be able to pass through using the automated gate. Meanwhile, Indonesian citizens, holding an e-passport or a regular (non-electronic) passport will be able to use the automatic gate machine.
Not only does the automated gate make entry and exit checks easier, but the Directorate General of Immigration also prioritizes the national security aspect by linking the transit system to the Interpol database and the Anti-Blocking Database. This is to prevent foreigners involved in criminal or other records in the databases from entering Indonesia.
