Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan, met with China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Chairman, Zheng Shanjie, in Beijing, presenting a series of investment proposals aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation. Luhut emphasized the importance of Chinese support for battery projects in the North Maluku Buli Industrial Zone, where Indonesia has developed facilities for battery material recycling and production.

Luhut specifically urged the smooth advancement of collaborations between Chinese consortia and the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) in Buli, highlighting the joint venture between CATL, Brunp, and Lygend, and IBC.

Additionally, Luhut presented a second proposal focused on the development of the North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Industrial Zone, which is poised to become a global green economy pioneer. He revealed China’s plans to construct a glass factory in the region and noted Indonesia’s regulatory adjustments to secure raw materials for petrochemical projects. He solicited further support from China for the industrial zone’s construction and continued backing for the glass factory project.

The third proposal involved boosting durian exports to China. Following a visit by the NDRC team to North Sumatra and Central Sulawesi, regions with significant potential, Luhut plans to engage with China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) to facilitate and encourage durian imports from Indonesia, thereby enhancing trade cooperation between the two nations.

The deepening Indonesia-China relationship offers substantial opportunities for Chinese enterprises, especially in the fields of new energy, green economy, and agricultural trade. Indonesia’s proactive policy support and stable investment climate create favorable conditions for the long-term development of Chinese businesses in the country.
