According to Chinese media channel 36kr, on November 4, Bai Jian, the former head of Xiaomi's chip, joined NIO and will serve as vice president of NIO's hardware team, reporting directly to founder Li Bin. NIO later confirmed the news. The EV-maker has been continuously investing in the field of autonomous driving technology for quite some time. Before joining Xiaomi, Bai Jian worked at OPPO as the hardware director. He joined Xiaomi in September 2018 as the general manager of Xiaomi's chip and forward-looking research department. His appointment shows NIO's determination to develop its chips. This is a big step to compete with Tesla, which has self-developed autonomous driving chips. At present, the competition among NEV firms has expanded from mass production delivery and IPO competition to self-research capabilities with intelligence as the core.
