China Tower Starts 5G Cruise Inspection Project Using Drones

The telecommunications tower infrastructure service provider has been focusing on 5G technology and plans to apply 5G VR real-time video in inspections.

According to the announcement from China Tower, China Tower Hebei subsidiary completes the test of the 5G low-cost VR real-time video functions using drones. During the test, the drones are equipped with 4k 360 Spherical Cameras and catch several HD aerial videos. 5G low-cost VR real-time video test is a part of the 5G cruise project of the company. With the help of drones, the company can conduct the general tower inspection and highway inspection more conveniently and less costly. Till now, the company has constructed two fixed unmanned drone ports, which can automatically charge and doing power exchange, and delegating inspection tasks.

China Tower has been focusing on 5G technology’s development and applications. During the China 5G + Industrial Internet Conference, the chairman of the company announced that it has built over 700,000 5G base stations, and 97% of them utilize the existing resource. Especially in Guangdong, cooperating with communication companies, China Tower has implemented 110,000 5G base station, which makes Guangdong be a national 5G network coverage leader.
