BYD Opened Its First Car Showroom in Chennai

BYD India is a subsidiary of BYD that commenced its EV operations in the country in 2007 with the construction of a new electronics manufacturing plant.

On November 1, 2022, BYD opened its first passenger vehicle showroom in Chennai. The new facility is operated and managed by KUN BYD, Ambattur, Chennai. The new outlet is spread across 20,000 square feet with state of an art 3S facility (sales, spares, and services). The showroom is one of the largest ones in the country, with well-trained technicians, service bays, a customer lounge, service equipment, and a showroom display floor. According to the company, by 2030, BYD hopes to capture at least 40% of the Indian EV market.

Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior VP of the Electric Passenger Vehicle Business of BYD India, said the first passenger vehicle showrooms are expected to help BYD penetrate deeper into the Chennai market. BYD is expanding its dealer network nationally, and the state has been a key part of the growth strategy in India.

BYD’s electric buses are currently operational in over ten cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kerala, Pune, and more. In November 2021, BYD India launched the E6, an electric MPV for India’s B2B segment. The E6 has a 71.7 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 415km. The automaker plans to enter the B2C market in India in 2022.
