EqualOcean report that on August 19, 2024, The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia's Oil Parks Development Company (OPDC) and the International Maritime Industries (IMI) have formed a strategic partnership in Ras AI-Khair to strengthen the offshore operations of the THE RIG tourism project.

THE RIG is the world's first offshore adventure and entertainment project inspired by offshore oil platforms, which will be built on the east coast of Saudi Arabia,  near Al Juraid Island and the Berri oil field. THE RIG will feature three hotels, a marina, a helipad, and an extreme sports and adventure park. It will also offer various water activities, a diving center, an e-sports center, as well as a theater and a multipurpose arena.

Developers expect THE RIG to attract over 900,000 visitors annually by 2032. This project aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, aimed at diversifying the economy through the expansion of the tourism and entertainment industries.
